New results on the equivalence between zero-one programming and continuous concave programming
In this work, we study continuous reformulations of zero-one concave programming problems. We introduce new concave penalty functions and we prove, using general equivalence results here derived, that the obtained continuous problems are equivalent to the original combinatorial problem.
متن کاملSolving zero-one mixed integer programming problems using tabu search
We describe a tabu search (TS) approach for solving general zero-one mixed integer programming (MIP) problems that exploits the extreme point property of zero-one solutions. Specialized choice rules and aspiration criteria are identified for the problems, expressed as functions of integer infeasibility measures and objective function values. The first-level TS mechanisms are then extended with ...
متن کاملOn Approximation Algorithms for Concave Mixed-Integer Quadratic Programming
Concave Mixed-Integer Quadratic Programming is the problem of minimizing a concave quadratic polynomial over the mixed-integer points in a polyhedral region. In this work we describe two algorithms that find an -approximate solution to a Concave Mixed-Integer Quadratic Programming problem. The running time of the proposed algorithms is polynomial in the size of the problem and in 1/ , provided ...

1 To appear as a chapter of the Handbook of Algorithms edited by M. Abstract Integer programming is an expressive framework for modeling and solving discrete optimization problems that arise in a variety of contexts in the engineering sciences. Integer programming representations work with implicit algebraic constraints (linear equations and inequalities on integer valued variables) to capture ...
متن کاملA Comprehensive Model for R and D Project Portfolio Selection with Zero-One Linear Goal-Programming (RESEARCH NOTE)
Technology centered organizations must be able to identify promising new products or process improvements at an early stage so that the necessary resources can be allocated to those activities. It is essential to invest in targeted research and development (R and D) projects as opposed to a wide range of ideas so that resources can be focused on successful outcomes. The selection of the most ap...
